Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is a burlesque life-drawing sensation that’s taking the world by storm with nearly 200 branches in cities on 5 continents!  It all started in New York City with artist Molly Crabapple… featuring some of the Big Apple’s most avant-garde models and burlesque performers lending their talents, donning crazy costumes, and posing for the drawing pleasure of a growing group of artists of all skill levels.  Now you can find a Dr. Sketchy’s branch in almost every major city in America (and beyond!) and in a lot of the smaller ones, too…..

Including Raleigh, North Carolina where artist and cabaret performer, Virginia Scare, has been organizing these life-drawing sessions for nearly two years.  Recently moved to a new venue and teamed up with SIN-EPLEX (a local monthly horror film club), Raleigh’s branch of Dr. Sketchy’s came across ZOMBIE PINUPS rather serendipitously while putting together a drawing session themed “Zombie Pinups!”  So all you art monkeys out there…find your local Dr. Sketchy’s branch and keep your eye out for a future ZOMBIE PINUP session near you!

On Saturday August 13 put on your sexiest classic pinup outfit and your most gruesome zombie make up, and compete to win the coveted title of Miss Zombie Queen 2011! The Pageant will be hosted by John LaFlamboy and will be judged by several of our Celebrity Guests (to be named) and awarded fabulous prizes for First, Second & Third Place.

Judging will be based on quality of make up / effects, costume and adherance to the spirit of the classic pinup image. All contestants will be photographed for a special gallery at ZombiePinups.com; winners will, of course, get optimal placement. The 2009 Zombie Pinup Beauty Pageant Winners

Last year, Night of the Stripping Dead took Chicago by storm – an unprecedented event that filled the notorious Admiral Theatre in Chicago to capacity and has been characterized by Zombie Army Productions Head Honcho John LaFlamboy as “One of the greatest nights of my life.”

On Tuesday, October 19, 2010, The Admiral Theater hosts Return of the Stripping Dead, a two-night event (they’re doing a second one on the 20th), but the 19th is the only night to feature a Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant!

Once again hosted by ZAP‘s John LaFlamboy and Q101′s Tim Virgin, last year’s Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant was one of the major highlights of the evening, and this year is shaping up to be even more over-the-top! See photos from last year’s event HERE.

The evening’s festivities will feature:

• Zombie Burlesque Performances by Miss Maya Sinstress and Special Guest Masuimi Max
• The Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant*
• The Undead Entertainers of the Admiral Theatre. That’s right. ZOMBIE STRIPPERS!
• Free on-site Zombie Makeovers
• Other awesome stuff we can’t disclose here…

This event is strictly 18+. Doors at 7:00 pm, show starts at 9:00 pm. $25.00 in advance (probably more at the door). The Admiral Theatre is located at 3940 W Lawrence Avenue in Chicago.

On Sunday, May 30th, get ready to party like it’s 1959 at RETRO ZOMBIE TIKI TERROR 2, a night of zombie fun set in the tiki wonderland that is The Tiki Terrace in Des Plaines, IL. RETRO ZOMBIE TIKI TERROR 2 will feature a Polynesian floor show, Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant, Zombie Costume Contest, raffles, prizes, zombie movies, tiki tunes and, of course, delicious tiki drinks!

• 6:00 – 8:00 : Socialize, eat, drink and be scary!

Tickets are $15.00 in advance, $20.00 at the door - purchase advance tickets HERE. Ticket does NOT include food or drinks. The Tiki Terrace has a full menu of Polynesian-themed food. Pre-sale tickets are only available until Midnight of May 16th. After that, the full price of 20.00 will be charged for tickets.

RETRO ZOMBIE TIKI TERROR 2 will take place from 3:00 pm to 2:00 am on Sunday, May 30th, at the Tiki Terrace, 1591 Lee St., Des Plaines, IL 60018, approximately 4 minutes north of O’Hare International Airport. Tiki Terrace is located at the NE Corner of Lee/Manheim and Oakton. It’s in a shopping center – keep a sharp eye out or you’ll drive right by it.

I finally had a moment to post the photos from the Third Annual Flashback Weekend Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant, which took place at the end of October 2009. The winners are pictured below; the rest of the photos are here.

This is the big one, folks – the Zombie Pinups Beauty Pageant at Flashback Weekend draws the largest number of contestants and the fiercest competition in costumes!
